A day at the beach hanging out with great people having an awesome time. What more can you ask for? The weather was perfect and the Avila Lighthouse Suites provided the perfect place for these two to begin their new life together. After all was said and done, the day was a huge success. Thanks Rachel and Chris for being a great couple and being so patient with an overworked photographer. I learned two things during this engagement session.
A) Arcadia is HOT in the summer.
B) Lisa and Jason are great to hang out with.

They had a beautiful ceremony at a local church and then it was off to the elegant Santa Maria Inn for a reception filled with all their closest family and friends. It's the classic story of the cheerleader meeting the football player and living happily ever after. Before all the happily ever after stuff though they had an awesome wedding day with a few hundred of their closest family and friends!

I truly mean it when I say that these guys know how to have a good time. After their beautiful ceremony at St. Mary's church, the fun began and didn't stop until the wee hours later that night. Thanks you two for letting me be a part of your big day and enjoy the pictures!

Kathryn & Jared - Sisqoc, CA

Meet Jared and Kathryn Kauthen, an awesome couple that I had the privilege of photographing recently. The ceremony was held at the beautiful and historic San Ramon Chapel and everything went perfect. After becoming Mr. & Mrs., they mingled with all their family and friends, enjoying champagne and strawberries outside the chapel. Then we explored the area around the chapel and in the process got some amazing shots of the two of them. Finally, it was off to the reception held in a close family friend's backyard where a good time was had by all. Thanks for being a great couple you two! Enjoy the pictures!

Kacie, Danny & Blake - Los Alamos, CA

Kacie and Danny are getting married next month and, if it's anything like this engagement session was, the wedding is going to be a blast. They wanted to shoot at a friend's vineyard just outside of Los Alamos and it turned out to be an awesome spot. These three were really fun and willing to wander all over trying pretty much any spots I had in mind. The little guy Blake was a man of a thousand faces as you can see in the pictures. I don't think I ever got the same expression from him twice. He did great and the three of them make a beautiful family.

MIchelle & Shelden - Arroyo Grande, CA

Meet Michelle and Shelden, an awesome couple that I had the pleasure of photographing throughout perhaps the biggest day of their lives. There's one thing that can be said about these two: they sure know how to have a good time. There was hardly a moment throughout the whole day when someone in the wedding party wasn't making everyone else laugh. It started with the groomsman pyramid and ended later that night when the Bride, Groom and about 60 of their closest friends were acting like complete maniacs out on the dance floor.

The venue was perfect thanks to Jessica and Logan over at the beautiful Gardens at Peacock Farms and the day went off without a hitch thanks to the wedding coordinator Danielle Bainbridge from I Do Weddings. These three were everywhere throughout the day making sure the couple had everything they needed. The day wouldn't have been complete though without some good music and Paul over at Escape Entertainment did an amazing job keeping things running smoothly during the reception and making sure everyone had a blast.

After all was said and done, the day was awesome and they are now Mr. and Mrs. Flowers. Here are some of my favorites from the day. I had a hard time choosing so there are few more than normal.

These are some awesome people. Tim & Tiffany will soon be taking their three beautiful kids to Papau New Guinea where they will be working to spread the gospel with New Tribes. When Tim contacted me about getting some family portraits done before they leave, I was more than happy to help out. After all, they're the ones traveling half way around the world. All I had to do was take a few pictures. Speaking of which, here a few from the shoot.

I first met Ruben, Carolina and their three children last year when we spent a sunny afternoon doing a family shoot at the beach. They truly are a beautiful family both inside and out and I thoroughly enjoyed photographing their special day. The ceremony was held at St. Mary's Church (conveniently located less than a block from my house) and the reception took place at the lovely Santa Maria Country Club. Engagement sessions are fun. You know why? I'll tell you. You get to shoot happy people in love. Combine that with an awesome location and you've got a recipe for a good time. This shoot with Angela and Vinny was no exception. We started off exploring the Santa Ynez Mission and finished in a field in Los Olivos that I've been wanting to shoot in for a while now. These two were great through the whole session and you could see that they were just happy to be together. I can't wait to shoot the wedding next summer. Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending a wedding as a guest and not a photographer. Although I did take my camera (because I don't think I could have managed without it) it was nice to sit back, enjoy some good company, and watch the controlled chaos that is a wedding. A few months ago we donated a free portrait session to an auction for Pacific Christian School. Wendy was the lucky winner and she wanted to have a family portrait session done at the beach. She said she wanted somewhere rocky so Shell Beach it was! We climbed around on some rocks, looked in some tidepools and managed to get a few pictures in here and there. Their son Parker was quite the little ham. Several times he came up with poses all on his own. Troy and Wendy, I'm sure you know it already, but you have a great little kid there. The VanderVeen Family - Nipomo, CA

These guys were a blast to shoot. They also showed me a new spot that is quickly becoming one of my favorites. That's two points for them!

The fun started just before I got there with one of the kids falling into the water. Ok maybe that wasn't so fun... but it definitely makes a good story and, after a fresh change of clothes, he was as good as new. Later, as I was shooting the individual families, the opposing siblings were heckling each other. It was a great way to get some smiles; I highly recommend it. These are definitely my kind of people.

When Rosa & Geoff contacted me a few weeks ago about shooting their engagement photos, I was really excited. I hadn't seen Geoff since our days playing basketball together in high school. It was really good to catch up and see how well he's doing. They decided to do the shoot at The Sunken Gardens & Courthouse in Santa Barbara and the weather couldn't have been nicer. My friend Dana from Blessed Beyond Belief Photography contacted me the other day to take some photos for her upcoming birthday. Of course I said yes as it is always an honor to be asked to take pictures by another photographer. She left the location to me so I just drug her all over Arroyo Grande to all my favorite places. Natalie and Luis are the perfect example of what a couple should be. You can see in their eyes just how much they care about each other and it was an honor to be there with them to capture the special moments throughout the day. They got married at The Kaleidoscope Inn, a beautiful Victorian bed & breakfast in Nipomo, CA. The garden area was the perfect setting for both the ceremony and reception.
